Sited on a distinct foothill prominence, this new house will showcase the Ojai Valley below and Topa Topa mountain range behind, with framed views of broad vistas from virtually every room. Balancing the sweeping openness of the site with the desire for security and retreat, we’ve approached the design as a collection of interconnected events rather than as a single composition. The result will be a series of interior and exterior spaces, each with a unique feel and scale, that will enable residents and guests to curate their own experience – be that a oneness with the surrounding natural environment or a sense of shelter and calm. The simple, form-driven design and spare material palette will support living in a beautiful location without being the destination itself.
