hobson heights
Part of a broader, phased remodel and landscape update of this hillside home in Ventura, CA, this project focused on creating kitchen and entertaining spaces that are both more attractive and functional. To fully capitalize on the sweeping views of midtown and beyond to the channel islands, the home’s original and undersized vinyl windows were replaced with large aluminum push-out windows. These include a “super awning” over the home’s dining bar, allowing the owners to enjoy a meal or sunset beverage while chatting with passing neighbors. The entirely new kitchen features matched-grain walnut cabinetry, stainless appliances, and ample storage for achieving clean counters and accentuating the home’s linearity and clarity of concept. In the living area, warmed by a wood-burning fireplace with a simple concrete surround, back-to-back double sliding doors open to ocean views to the south and hillside views to the north and connect indoors and out more seamlessly.
